We provide humanistic person centred counselling. Our training incorporated the core conditions and was predominantly based on the work of Carl Rogers, although we do use a range of tools to help people move forward. We believe person centred counselling in its purest form can keep people stuck for longer, so we also use solution focussed questioning and motivational interviewing techniques. Where appropriate, goal setting can also be incorporated into the work we do with you.
The primary aim of counselling is to help you accept where you are so that you are able to move forward. We also place a great deal of emphasis on personal responsibility because you are not able to change anyone else but you can change your own behaviour and attitudes. Counselling helps you to get in touch with your own core values and authentic self.
Reiki is an ancient Japanese energy healing treatment and is deeply relaxing. It involves you lying on a massage table under a blanket and getting comfortable. The reiki practitioner will then place their hands on your body (avoiding sensitive areas), following the chakras. This moves your energy field and this can be experienced in various ways. Some people see colours, others see shapes. For some they can feel the energy moving around. Some people report feeling nothing at all except relaxed. Everyone experiences reiki differently and the experience may vary from one session to another.
The reiki practitioner will use their intuition to know where they need to concentrate on your body. So they may spend more time on your lower abdomen than on your head.
Afterwards you will be offered a glass of water and encouraged to wake up and sit up slowly as the relaxed state can be difficult to come out of!
We like to have a chat about the experience too, to see what was going on for client and practitioner to see if that matches – which it usually does.
We run groups for people with health conditions and disabilities to reduce social isolation. Loneliness can be a serious risk to your health and we want to promote health and wellbeing to enable you to live your life to its fullest.
We also have employability courses which help people to explore their vocational goals and to take their next steps.
Yes we do! However, whilst some companies will write your cv for you, researching your keywords and producing this for you, Cygnet doesn’t work in that way. We like to work with you to get your CV in a style that reflects who you are as a person and what your aspirations are for your future.
When you are part of the process of working on your CV, you’re more likely to succeed in an interview as the process helps you to identify your skills and helps you to be able to sell yourself to an employer. We also explore the areas that you are having difficulties with in our one to one session so we can help put you on the right track to success. Our method is tried and tested and we have seen a 96% success rate in working in this way.
Cygnet works in partnership with other organisations so if we feel that your needs aren’t a good fit for what we do, we can help you find someone that is.
We have a range of interventions that can help you with your self confidence. We can help you identify your skills, facilitate your involvement in activity groups and provide enabling services to support you to access vocational and social activities.
We do work with people who want to change jobs. Please get in touch to find out how we can help you.

We would love to talk to you about how we can work together. Partnership working can be beneficial to everyone including clients and both organisations because working together shares resources and can mean a better outcome for clients.
We work with people with many different conditions including brain injury, autism, learning disabilities, parkinsons and other neurological conditions. Prior to us starting work with you or your loved one, we complete a thorough assessment to help us get to know how we can meet the needs of the client. This will also help us to work out if our service is the one that is most suitable for you.
