When I have been listened to and when I have been heard, I am able to re-perceive my world in a new way and to go on. It is astonishing how elements that seem insoluble become soluble when someone listens, how confusions that seem irremediable turn into relatively clear flowing streams when one is heard. I have deeply appreciated the times that I have experienced this sensitive, empathic, concentrated listening.
We provide person centered counselling to those who feel stuck. You might want to feel more in control of your life. Often when life throws everything it’s got at us we can feel overwhelmed and wonder “why me”. We can work with you to get your mojo back. This may not be an easy process but counselling can help you process how you think and feel about a situation. This helps get in touch with your true values away from what other people want you to do.
The way we work is suitable for any issue. Our main approach is person centred counselling, but we use a range of other approaches to find a good fit for our clients. When working with a counsellor it is the relationship between therapist and client that is most important. So if it is a good fit, that's where the magic happens.

Seeking out a suitably qualified and experienced counsellor can help you process your emotions and help you move on. We can help you see the light, re-framing your experiences, acknowledging your pain and experiences and helping you to find the best way to deal with any issues that are ongoing now.
Often it is not what is happening to us that is difficult, it is the way we look at it. At other times it is absolutely the problem that is difficult to deal with. Everyone experiences a range of emotions and issues at times and we need time to reflect and process what has happened. We need to give ourselves time to process what we have learned about ourselves as a result of this experience. If we don’t invest this time we risk passing our pain onto other people in our lives. We might also blame others instead of the healthier approach which is to take responsibility for our emotions and situations. At times other people can project feelings onto you and this can feel confusing – what is me and what is them? We can work together to work that out.
How We Work
We work with individuals in 6 week blocks. We offer as initial consultation to talk about what you can expect and to work out the best way forward for your situation.
Counselling Placements for Trainees
Cygnet is working on setting up as a placement provider for trainee counsellors. We know there is a shortage of places for trainees to learn the skills they need to gain their qualifications. Whilst they do this they are highly supervised by both the college and an external supervisor and talk through their learning in depth with an experienced counsellor.
This placement will also be of benefit to our clients as we will be able to offer a lower cost service for people in need who are on a low income. The quality of this service will be as high as if you were meeting a counsellor who is fully qualified.
We will soon be looking for a volunteer to help us set this service up.
